Overhauls

Step One: Diagnostic of the watch - One of our watch repairers will analyse your watch, to identify any clear major faults allowing them to give an initial estimate. (Please note if further faults are found during repairs this may require the work to be re-estimated, we will contact you before proceeding with further work in this event.)

Step Two: Once we have received the proceed for the repair the movement will be fully disassembled and each part examined for any wear or fault

Step Three: Cleaning of the movement – Each part is thoroughly cleaned using horological cleaning fluid to remove all old oil and dirt.

Step Four: Oiling and reassembly – Once cleaned all parts are again inspected for signs of wear or any faults. The movement is then reassembled and oiled using the correct oils for the correct parts (there are several grades of oil).

Step Five: Refitting of the dial and hands – The dial and hands are examined to check they are not worn or damaged and then carefully refitted to the watch keeping the hands straight and parallel to each other.

Step Six: Timekeeping adjustments - Now the watch movement is back up and running the watch time keeping is regulated to within the movements tolerances. This is done using a specialist timing machine by our watch repairers. (Note: Older watches will have different tolerances to newer movements so timekeeping will not be as accurate)

Step Seven: Case cleaning and valeting – Now the movement is finished and on test out of the case our watchmakers will refinish and ultra sonically clean your watch case. This is a complimentary part of a full service and will be done automatically so if you do not wish the watch to be polished please inform us before we begin repairs. (Note: This is a light polish it will not restore the look of the watch to factory new. Older watches we will use our best judgment and usually give a lighter polish than a modern watch. If you would like further polishing done we can discuss this with you when you collect the watch. Gold plated, chrome or PVD plated watches will not be polished.)

Step Eight: Replacing the old seals - With the case cleaned and dried we will fit new seals (where available) to your watch case and test the watch to the manufactures specified depth to ensure water resistancy.

Step Nine: Recasing final inspection and testing – With your watch case clean and resealed it is reunited with the movement for final inspection and testing. We check the time keeping on your watch again to ensure it meets the tolerances laid out by the movement manufacturer. The watch is then tested in its case in various positions for a period of a few days – a few weeks to ensure it is running correctly and keeping good time.

What else do we offer?

Valeting Service: We can make your watch look the same as it did when you first bought it, through our on-site valeting service. This includes watches with a two-tone finish (polished/brushed steel etc).

Our watchmaker has had many years experience in the refurbishment of watch cases and bracelets. NB: A LIGHT valet is included in the cost of an overhaul.

Dial Restoration: Over time, particularly with older watches, dials can become discoloured and/or damaged through vapour seeping into the case. We can fully restore your dial, bringing it back to its original style. If you fancy having a customised dial, we are able to change the colour of the dial.

Glass Replacement: We can replace most types of watch glass (mineral or sapphire). Due to the wide variety of glasses available, we would need to see your watch to determine the correct glass. NB: Glass replacement is NOT normally included in the cost of an overhaul.

Battery Replacement: We stock a wide variety of batteries for all types of watches. Battery replacement costs between £10-25, dependent on the style of case your watch has.

Vacuum Testing: As standard, when changing batteries in waterproof watches, your watch will undergo a "seal health check". This involves subjecting your watch to the manufacturer's standard of pressure. We can then advise as to whether or not your seals need to be replaced. Please note that this is NOT a guarantee of waterproofing at this stage.

Additional water resistance testing, such as for watches over 10ATM will be charged separately. They will undergo what is known as a "wet test" to the manufacturer's standard of pressure.

Strap Replacement: We have a wide selection of leather, fabric and silicone straps, in a variety of colours and styles, in store, from 6mm to 24mm. We also have a stock of Unifit straps, as well as cocktail straps in a variety of sizes.

Bracelet adjustment: We have the tools and skills required to adjust the bracelet on your watch. We can also order in extra links for a wide variety of watch types. Depending on how busy we are, this is normally a "while-you-wait" service.

The cost of an overhaul includes a 20% allowance for parts. Should the cost of parts exceed this amount, the customer will be advised prior to the additional work being carried out, and will be charged accordingly.
